Join us for a special screening and a moderated post-film discussion of the documentary, SITTING STILL, sponsored by UMass LARP, the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Planning Association (MA-APA), and the Boston Society of Landscape Architects (BSLA). The event will be held on Thursday, September 24th from 4-6 PM in the John W. Olver Design Building Lecture Hall (room 170) with a reception to follow.

The film is 90 minutes and the discussion will be 30 minutes.

About the Film

SITTING STILL is an original documentary by award-winning filmmaker, Gina Angelone, that focuses on one of the world’s most preeminent landscape architects and his profoundly social vision, Laurie Olin. Hailed as a modern-day Olmsted, Olin has helped transform the design of public space, revitalize the American city, and pave the way for future design leaders. As Angelone's 8th film on urban design, SITTING STILL offers a portrait of the artist told through a prism of issues, which have defined Olin’s life and work for the past fifty years: urbanization and our lost connection to nature, economic marginalization, and the grave importance of humanity in design. Featuring the voices of design luminaries, Frank Gehry, Billie Tsien and Walter Hood, the film examines key social issues, which have defined the last 50 years of designing built and natural environments—issues like vast urbanization, our lost connection to nature, affordable housing, and the grave importance of humanity in design–creating a critical conversation about the marks we make on the land and why they matter.

SITTING STILL is currently screening worldwide at cultural organizations, universities, museums, and film festivals.
