Join the Department of Landscape Architecture & Regional Planning (LARP) on Thursday, September 17th, at 4:00 p.m. in the John W. Olver Design Building Lecture Hall (room 170) for "Zoning Large Parcels for Reuse: Lessons from Hampshire College," a Zube Lecture presented by Jeff Bagg.

Admission is free and open to the public. Snacks and drinks will be provided. A recording of this lecture will be posted to UMass LARP's YouTube channel after the event.

About the Talk

Confronted with this once-in a-generation challenge, this session will provide a glimpse into the ongoing planning process for rezoning Hampshire College land – one where decisions haven’t been made yet – and see how a group of planners are navigating this unique set of opportunities and challenges.

About the Speaker

Jeff Bagg, AICP, has over a decade of additional experience in municipal planning and economic development in both the private and public sectors. As Amherst’s Planning & Economic Development Director, he will oversee the administration of land use planning and permitting, lead the development of both short- and long-range planning projects, and guide all economic development initiatives.

The History of Zube

The Zube Lecture Series is named for Erv Zube, former head of the Department of Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning from 1965 to 1980. Professor Zube is internationally known for his groundbreaking leadership in developing a culture of academic research in landscape architecture. His research made numerous seminal contributions to landscape planning theory and practice. Zube left UMass for the University of Arizona, where he continued his renowned research and teaching until he passed away in 2001. Erv Zube and his wife, Margaret, established an endowment at UMass Amherst in 2004 to “bring scholars to the department to stimulate and enrich our academic community in landscape architecture and planning." The Zube endowment has been supported generously by alumni, students and faculty.

The Department honors their leadership and generosity through the Zube Lecture Series which continues to enrich our community with the thoughts and works of local, national, and international academic and professional leaders. The department is pleased to accept donations of any amount to continue to build and enlarge the endowment.
